Why We Love Clay

The medium of clay has an intrinsically malleable and practical nature which has been beloved by humans for over 18 thousand years. Our enchantment with clay has perpetuated as we continue finding new uses for this magical material which can even be found in cutting edge fields such as aerospace engineering. For this reason, ceramics is not just a creative form of self-expression, but is also a medium through which we can learn art, history, science, engineering, and self-reflection as a species. Communities come together around clay and you can’t find a more relevant, beautiful, and ever inspiring material.

Our Story

Jennie Dito, a local ceramic enthusiast, founded MVPS in 2011 and our sister studio Wheelhouse in 2016. Inspired by the therapeutic properties of working in clay – she opened the studio to share this creative process that can slow you down. Today, the studio is owned by Lucy Alexander who also has a passion for ceramics and education. Find our studio inside the gates of California Native Plant Nursery, and enjoy the beautiful surrounding garden. Sign up for a class, relax, make friends, and enjoy a new creative outlet!
